Acting at all Levels to make Conservation and Sustainable use of Biodiversity a Reality

Biodiversity is a complex area, and there are many scientific aspects of it that require further elucidation. Scientific information on biodiversity is important to help to build the basis on which to take informed policy decisions.

UNESCO activities in this area consist in:

    • collecting, peer-reviewing and packaging scientific information for decision-making
    • promoting the participation of its Member States and scientists in international research and monitoring programmes on biodiversity
    • providing technical advice on biodiversity governance and contributing to biodiversity policy research
