A Conference on the First Great MigrationsUnder the auspices of UNESCO, this International Conference is dedicated to a topic that has not been extensively studied in science: The First Large Migrations of People. This conference will be an opportunity to look at our knowledge of these migrations. Anthropologists working closely with geneticists and archeologists came to the conclusion that humans first appeared in Africa. This challenges the stereotypical idea that human beings appeared in different parts of the world. Coming out of Africa, Homo Sapiens colonized the entire planet.

Scientists from different fields, archeology, linguistics, paleography, genetics, paleoanthropology, will gather to discuss the origins of humanity, taking a close look at the migration flows that disseminated human beings around the world. The question of the origin of several linguistic families and their disseminations will also be discussed.

This conference will take place on 19 June 2008 at UNESCO Headquarters - 7 place de Fontenoy, Paris, Room XI (9am - 6.30 pm).
