Organised by Heinrich Böll Stiftung, the Green political foundation, in cooperation with the Robert Bosch Foundation and the British Council, an international conference will take place in Berlin (Germany) from 19 to 20 May 2009, addressing the causes and the background for migratory movements in the Mediterranean and examining the issues relevant to European Union and North African border management.

The UNESCO book Migration without borders. Essays on the free movement of people has received great interest amongst researchers and politicians since its publication in English in 2007. It is now available to a wider audience, having been translated into French, Spanish and Russian. A Chinese version will be forthcoming.
NewsThe Spanish MDG Fund launches a project to protect and promote the rights of China’s young migrants 2009-04-06 9:00 am UNESCO
By addressing several Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), a project endorsed by the UNDP-Spain MDG Achievement Fund plans to ensure that the benefits of development reach China’s vulnerable young migrants. It has been launched through the Youth, Employment and Migration Programme, to a total budget of over 7 million USD. Nine UN agencies will be working on the programme, including the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNESCO.

The accession of Niger to the Migrant Workers Convention on 18 March 2009 brings the total number of State Parties to the Convention to 41. Niger’s accession comes after recent inclusion of Paraguay (23 September 2008), Jamaica (25 September 2008) and Rwanda (15 December 2008).

In order to compare and analyze their first results, the international coordination team of this project organizes a regional youth meeting in Sale, Morocco, 29 June-3 July 2008.
