UNESCO organizes session on “Migration, the missing link of globalization” at the World Social Science Forum

UNESCO organizes session on “Migration, the missing link of globalization” at the World Social Science ForumSpeakers from India, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States of America will debate issues central to today’s more mobile world, broaching such subjects as skilled migration and brain-drain; social care and the health needs of migrants; and States’ concerns with controlling migration and reinforcing security.

Speakers will be Binod Khadria, Jawaharlal Nehru University (India); David Ingleby, Utrecht University (Netherlands); Nicola Piper, Swansea University (United Kingdom); and Joseph Chamie, Centre for Migration Studies (United States of America).

The World Social Science Forum (WSSF) is convened by the International Social Science Council and co-organized by the University of Bergen and the Rokkan Centre. It will take place in Bergen, Norway, from 10 to 12 May 2009. The theme of the conference is “One Planet - Worlds Apart?”, and will examine the changing dynamics of today’s world and the challenges to the social sciences.

Other themes to be approached at the WSSF are, for example: Gender and armed conflicts; Universalism vs. Multiculturalism; and Poverty: the role of social research and social policy.
