Global Migration Group (GMG)

Prev Websites 8 of 22 Next
The Global Migration Group is an inter-agency group, meeting at the level of Heads of agencies, which aims to promote the wider application of all relevant international and regional instruments and norms relating to migration, and the provision of more coherent and stronger leadership to improve the overall effectiveness of the United Nations and the international community's policy and operational response to the opportunities and challenges presented by international migration.

In December 2007, UNESCO joined the Global Migration Group (GMG), a group of now fourteen United Nations and intergovernmental organisations that was launched by the UN Secretary General in 2006. UNESCO’s membership to the GMG enables stronger cooperation with other agencies active on migration issues, while acknowledging UNESCO’s contribution to the work of the United Nations in this field.

Members of the GMG (in April 2008):
ILO, IOM, the Regional Commissions, UNCTAD, UNDP, UN-DESA, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNHCHR, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNITAR, UNODC, and World Bank.
