Législation | The National Commission was organized by the Presidential Decree no. 1588 in 1967, which was amended by the Decree no. 480 of 1991.
The National Commission is affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education. |
Centre de documentation | The Documentation Centre approximately gathers 200 000 publications, issued by UNESCO, ALECSO, ISESCO, IIEP (depository library), other National Commissions and the local authorities.
The Centre welcomes some 2000 visitors each year.
In 1985, a UNESCO microfiche library was established within the Documentation Centre The Documentation Centre, which is computerized, is administered by academics who have received short-term professional training courses on information programmes, archiving and netwoking. |
Structure de la Commission | The National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly (chaired by the Minister of Higher Education): members of the General Assembly represent the universities , the elected members of the executive boards of international organizations, under-secretaries of state of the concerned ministries, the Secretary-General of the National Commission and the Egyptian permanent Delegate at UNESCO. It also consists of eminent figures concerned with UNESCO's field of specialization who are nominated by the Chairman. The General Assembly is mainly concerned with the discussion of reports submitted by the Permanent Delegates and Members of the Executive Boards of the respective organizations; the adoption of projects and programmes submitted by the Secretariat of the National Commission; and the adoption of the regulating statute of the National Commission.
- The Executive Bureau, which is composed of the Secretary-General, Under Secretaries of State of concerned Ministries and the Assistant Secretary General of the National Commission. It is chaired by the Under Secretary of State for cultural relations within the Ministry of Higher Education.

Membres/Composition | The membership of the National Commission includes representatives of ministries, universities, national institutions, the media, as well as parlementarians, the Egyptian permanent delegate for UNESCO and eminent personalities in UNESCO's field of competence, who are nominated by the Chairman. |
Comité exécutif | The Executive Bureau is made up of the Secretary-General, Under Secretaries of State of concerned ministries and the assistant secretary general of the National Commission. It is chaired by the Under-Secretary of State for Cultural Relations within the Ministry of Higher Education. |

Comités ou sous-comités | The sub-committees cover the various activities of UNESCO's competences: education, natural sciences, communication and information, culture, biosphere national committee, social science, MOST, and two National Committee for Biosphere and Bioethics and the Arab Network. |
