A note on accessibility
If a convention on the rights of persons with disabilities is to open opportunities, then, at
the very least, the website on the convention must be accessible to all people. To make this
possible, we are taking a number of steps that, we hope, will allow everyone and anyone to find
the information that they need.
For this site, and for future United Nations websites, we have incorporated design elements that
allow navigation by visually-impaired users. But the new, accessible design does not detract in
any way, either aesthetically or in functionality.
The UN is working to make the Internet more accessible. Improving access to new information
technologies, such as the Internet and cell phones, for persons with disabilities will be the
focus of this year’s International Day of Disabled Persons, which will be marked on 3 December
2006.
