Promoting TVET and Skills Development in Afghanistan
UNESCO’s work in the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) field in Afghanistan has been supported through the Capacity Development for Education For All programme (CapEFA), a global initiative created to assist those Member States farthest from achieving the six EFA goals to build the capacity of their education systems in key areas. This programme has focused on conducting a diagnostic of the sector and on facilitating strategic dialogue among stakeholders involved, leading to the development and validation of evidence-based policy to support the implementation of the National Education Strategic Plan (NESP) and achieve the goals related to TVET, skills development and EFA through both formal and non-formal education.
Key achievements CapEFA has supported to date have been the development of a first ever National TVET Strategy and Action Plan for Afghanistan, the establishment of a National TVET Research Centre, linked with International Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNEVOC), and the development of a TVET-Management Information System (MIS) for Afghanistan.
UNESCO will continue to stand with the Government of Afghanistan in its efforts to strengthen governance, expand access, and improve quality within the TVET sector, with the overall goal of building a strong skills-based economy for Afghanistan.
