Caribbean journalists celebrate World Press Freedom Day

Over fifty Caribbean journalists are gathering at the Caribbean Media Conference in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to celebrate World Press Freedom Day. The conference, sponsored by UNESCO, is being held under the theme 21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers. It is taking place on 4 and 5 May 2011 at the National Insurance Services Centre in Kingstown.
The conference is featuring panel discussions on the following topics:
The Changing Economics of Media;
Skills Requirements for 21st Century Media;
Public/State Media and National Development;
Media in a Digital Age;
Media Freedom and Democracy; and
Media and the Social Agenda.
Speakers at the Conference are from the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), the Gleaner Newspaper, the Association of Caribbean Media Workers, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union and other regional institutions.
The Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, is hosting a cocktail on the first day of the event to welcome Caribbean journalists and UNESCO representatives.
