The objectives of the project include to expose young women leaders in Uganda to issues of social justice through the medium of information technology; to facilitate a learning environment for young women leaders that is interactive and encourages research; to build the confidence of young women leaders in the use of ICT as a development tool and to support interactive learning for young women leaders by reorganizing and reorienting the library of the Forum for Women and Democracy (FOWODE) in Uganda, the implementing agency of the project

The goal of the project is to create a democratic space that seeks to transform young women into change agents and leaders with a vision of an alternative world where there is gender equality and justice for all.

Each year the project works with 30 young women aged 18 – 20 from all parts of Uganda. With UNESCO’s funds, FOWODE hopes to computerize and update their library in order to expose the young women to issues of social justice and social transformation through the use of Information Communication Technology. An IT trainer will train the young leaders on how to operate the above resource. Integrating information communication technology into the learning process would serve not only to enrich the curriculum but it would introduce and link the young leaders to the global information society. The training to be conducted will include Basic Computer training, online research, hands on training in ICT and exchange of best prices.

The mission of FOWODE, a Kampala based non-governmental organization, is to promote gender equality in all decision-making through advocacy, training, research and publishing.

UNESCO’s Information for All Programme (IFAP) provides a framework for international co-operation and international and regional partnerships. It supports the development of common strategies, methods and tools to build inclusive, open and pluralistic knowledge societies and to narrow the gap between the information rich and the information poor.
