Objectives
The specific objectives of this Chair are to:
- encourage a collective management of public conflicts based on the modern standards of democracy, ethics, justice and humanism;
- provide a space for reflection and discussion based on intersectoral, multidisciplinary and transnational research on conflict resolution, and open to various sectors of Colombian society, as well as to students and researchers in the region;
- set up an intersectoral and multidisciplinary documentation centre, as well as a database accessible to the general public, which will both be shared by different partners and enriched by their participation and inputs;
- foster the emergence of structured and coherent socio-political actors, who will design and implement regional policies in conflict management, and favour knowledge exchange within a North-South and South-South dynamic;
- undertake academic research and a collective analysis, understanding and management of conflicts based on standards of justice, democracy and ethics, and including a gendered approach to these questions, as well as raise awareness on the need for a humanist approach to conflict resolution and elaborate policy recommendations on specific themes related to UNESCO’s values, priorities and functions;
- collaborate with UNESCO on programmes whose objectives are to support human rights and gender-based approaches to international collaboration in post-conflict and post-disaster situations; carry out research on the understanding of the impacts of conflicts on social structures and relations – including gender relations – and of the fundamental causes of gender-based violence in post-conflict and post-disaster situations; provide policy-makers, as well as civil society with ethical perspectives for dealing with these situations; foster evidence-based research and analysis on related social transformations; and, create spaces for inclusive dialogue, social cohesion and participation of all marginalized groups in post-conflict and post-disaster reconstruction. Activities may be envisaged also in cooperation with the Category II center, “Centro Internacional para la Promoción de los Derechos Humanos,” in Buenos Aires (Argentina); and,
- work in good coordination with UNESCO’s Intersectoral Platform on Post-Conflict and Post-Disaster.
