Capacity Development

©UNESCO AMMAN

Capacity development is an integral part of UNESCO Amman Office’s work in the Communication and Information sector. UNESCO recognizes that sound journalism education contributes to professional and ethical practices of journalism, which better fosters democracy, dialogue and development. Professional news media act as a guardian of public interest, delivering the checks and balances that allow for democracy. By disseminating accurate information to citizens, news media enable citizen participation and strengthen accountability. Citizens cannot exercise and enjoy their full rights in the absence of adequate information provided by well-trained journalists.

The UNESCO Amman Office regularly conducts trainings for media professionals to foster capacity building on topics such as investigative journalism, gender sensitization in media coverage and inter-sectoral themes such as water, sustainable development and environmental issues.
