Associated School Projects (ASPnet)

Founded in 1953, the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet) is a global network of more than 9,000 educational institutions in 180 countries.The UNESCO Amman Office is entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating, planning and implementing the ASPnet programme in the region. In Jordan, there are currently more than 100 ASPnet schools promoting the themes of human rights, world heritage education, desertification, water and environmental issues, HIV/AIDS and inclusive education.

The following activities have been implemented by the UNESCO Amman Office for its regional ASPnet in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Higher Council for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities, Yarmouk University and Hussein bin Talal University:

  • ASPnet educational resource materials, newsletters and manuals in different thematic areas were produced in Arabic and distributed to ASPnet schools, ASPnet national coordinators and Ministries of Education in the region;
  • Distribution of the Arabic version of the World Heritage Education Kit to over 500 ASPnet schools in the Arab region;
  • Distribution of the World Heritage in Young Hands Kit in Arabic to Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Yemen, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Mauritania, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as to ALECSO, ISESCO, and NGOs and UNESCO field offices in the region;
  • Establishment of a relationship between four ASPnet schools in Jordan and four schools in Denmark in the field of World Heritage Education;
  • Organization of national capacity building workshops for ASPnet teachers and coordinators;
  • Establishment of a partnership with the Swedish NGO Life-Link and organization of several regional Life-Link-ASPnet workshops.
