During its meeting of 28 April 2015, the Approval Committee of the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport approved 15 new initiatives amounting to more than US$ 370,000.

Four projects were presented by States Parties that have never before benefitted from the Fund (Latvia, Lithuania, Kyrgyzstan, and Portugal). Six others directly built on the outcomes of previous applications under the Fund (Barbados, Botswana, Côte d’Ivoire, Malawi, Slovenia, and Togo).

The 15 new projects are:

  • Always on the Right Way – 3rd UNESCO Run of Youth (Slovenia)
  • E-learning tool on anti-doping in sport (Lithuania)
  • Development of anti-doping programme in member countries of the Central Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organization (Kyrgyzstan, regional project)
  • Modernization of anti-doping policy (Latvia)
  • Africa Zone VI RADO’s Education and Capacity-building project (Botswana, regional project)
  • For a clean and healthy sport – National holistic strategy – phase I (Portugal)
  • National anti-doping capacity-building and awareness programme (Ethiopia)
  • Development of a strategic national plan for anti-doping (Togo)
  • New anti-doping legislation (Barbados)
  • Students, yes to sport, no to doping (Côte d’Ivoire)
  • Anti-doping seminar for athlete support personnel – Information and discussion on 2015 World Anti-Doping Code and Viet Nam anti-doping regulation (Viet Nam)
  • Strengthening doping control capacity among Caribbean RADO DCOs (Barbados, regional project)
  • Capacity development – National training on Therapeutic Use Exemption (Malaysia)
  • Bringing anti-doping to mainstream education (Grenada)
  • Institutional development for promotion of anti-doping activities (Malawi)

Committee members commended States Party applicants on the broad range of initiatives, from the elaboration of anti-doping policies to e-learning tools, capacity-building seminars for specialized staff and outreach during major sport events. In particular, broad stakeholder engagement and consultation, cross-border collaboration and increased focus on the revision or adoption of national anti-doping legislation were highlighted as positive trends.

During the meeting, the Secretariat also updated the Committee on communication and visibility activities to better promote the Fund’s objectives and funded projects.

Finally, the session afforded the opportunity to discuss preparations for the 10th anniversary of the Conference of Parties that will take place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 29 and 30 October 2015.
