Barbados

Barbados joined UNESCO on 24 October 1968, and is covered by the Organization’s office based in Kingston, Jamaica.

According to the Education for All (EFA) Global Monitoring Report, Barbados has achieved gender parity at the primary and secondary school levels.

Barbados is the host country for a Regional Anti-Doping Organisation, which involves 11 other Caribbean states, working to encourage Caribbean Member States to ratify the UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport.

To promote cultural dialogue as well as local heritage preservation, Barbados implements the Youth PATH (Poverty Alleviation through Tourism and Heritage) project, which has contributed to creating a diverse group of young people with skills and expertise in heritage tourism and interpretation.

The Barbados & Museum Historical Society’s collection of Caribbean Slavery Heritage is inscribed in the Memory of the World Register.
