During the 23rd Session of the Executive Board of the Asia-Pacific Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations (AFUCA), which was held on 6-7 September 2016 in Almaty in the framework of celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Bolat Akchulakov, President of the Kazakhstan National Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations was elected as the new President of AFUCA.

"I started to work in the Federation of UNESCO Clubs four years ago. I think it is a great privilege to work with children. I am proud of what Federation does, but I did not expect that I will take up senior positions in the whole Asia-Pacific region"

Mr. Akchulakov, President of the Asia-Pacific and Kazakhstan Federations of UNESCO Clubs and Associations

It is noteworthy that Mr. Akchulakov was elected unanimously but the AFUCA Executive Board, which includes Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Nepal, Russia and Thailand. The representatives from Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Philippines, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the leaders of candidates to UNESCO clubs and UNESCO clubs from the regions of Kazakhstan were also invited as the international observers.

Mr. Yoo Jay-kun (Korea), ex-President of AFUCA, noted that Kazakhstan joined AFUCA only five years ago and still remains the youngest member of Federation.

"I believe that Bolat as a very dynamic leader will bring the new ideas and will show himself on the post of the President of the Asia-Pacific Federation of UNESCO Clubs"
