Sudan celebrates World Press Freedom Day

On the 3rd of May 2016, the Khartoum office of UNESCO in collaboration with the Sudanese National Commission, the Ministry of Information, and the Sudanese Journalist Union organized the celebration of the World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) in Khartoum / Omdurman / Bahri metropolis contributing to UNESCO worldwide celebration. The event took place on the premises of the Journalist Union.

The event contained two parts – the debates, where discussion speeches were delivered by the respected media professionals, and the celebration itself. About sixty journalists favored both parts of the event by their participation.

In the celebration part guests were welcomed by the President of the Journalist Union Mr. Alsadig Ibrahim Alrizagi, the General Secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO Dr. Abdulgader Nureddin, the Deputy Head of the Political Sector of the National Congress Dr. Abedmalik Elbereir, who represented the Vice-President of the Republic, the Head of the Khartoum office Dr. Pavel Kroupkine, the Minister of Information Dr. Ahmed Bilal Osman. Dr. Pavel Kroupkine delivered to the public main ideas of the message of the General Secretary of UNESCO Ms. Irina Bokova issued on the occasion of the WPFD 2016.

After the ceremony, people freely communicated in the yard of the premises, where they enjoyed by a photo-exhibition, which was made by the Union. 

Both parts of the event were honored by the Minister of Information Dr. Ahmed Bilal Osman, the Minister of Culture Mr. Altaeb Hassan Badawi, and Representative of UNESCO to Sudan Dr. Pavel Kroupkine.
