On 5 July, the informal High-Level Group supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda - a group of nine countries from various parts of the world (Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Liberia, South Africa, Sweden, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Tunisia) that are committed to maintaining political support for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels of society - and UNESCO’s Secretariat (BSP/UNC) organized an Interactive Workshop on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris.
The Interactive Workshop provided an opportunity for countries to exchange national experiences on SDG implementation and to discuss the way forward, including how best UNESCO can support countries in this endeavor. The event also contributed to the preparation of the High-Level Political Forum, the central platform for the follow up and review of the 2030 Agenda, held at the UN in New York from 11-20 July.
The workshop was moderated by the Ambassador of Sweden and included an opening segment with the Director-General of UNESCO and two SDG advocates: Forest Whitaker, UNESCO Special Envoy, and Alaa Murabit, Founder of the Voice of Libyan Women, who provided their messages. Presentations were given by members of the High-Level Group (Colombia, Tanzania, Germany, Tunisia, Sweden) on their work to implement the SDGs at country level and to support international cooperation.
An open discussion and information sharing with Member States in the audience then ensued. Following the rich debate, the Deputy Director-General of UNESCO provided a summary of the discussions, which will be made available shortly.
