ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) Prize Award Ceremony 2016

Within the framework of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), the UNESCO-Japan Prize on ESD honours outstanding efforts of individuals, institutions, organizations or other entities engaged in ESD activities. Funded by the Government of Japan, the Prize consists of three annual awards of US $50,000 for each recipient. This is the second edition of the Prize.

This year's laureates are: the Centre for Community Regeneration and Development (CCREAD-Cameroon) from Cameroon, the Okayama ESD Promotion Commission from Japan, and the National Union of Students UK (NUS-UK) from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. They were chosen by an international jury from a total of 120 nominations, submitted by 64 UNESCO Member States and 10 NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO.

The Prize will be awarded by the UNESCO Director-General and the Permanent Delegate of Japan to UNESCO.

The ceremony will be followed by a lunch reception with organic food provided by a social inclusion and solidarity caterer.
