Local Products Workshop in Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve, Lebanon

Jabal Moussa Biosphere reserve launched on Saturday, September 3rd, its local products workshop at Jouret el-Termos. The workshop contains a kitchen for the preparation of the products such as fruits jams, zaatar (mix of spices with thyme), as well as seed laboratory, reserved for the plants nursery of the Association for the Protection of Jabal Moussa (APJM).

The inauguration of the workshop took place in the presence of a UNESCO MAB representative, the national Lebanese MAB Committee, as well as the presidents of the city councils and moukhtars (mayors) of the villages of Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve. The president of APJM, M. Pierre Doumet, asserted that the 14 000 visitors a year of the biosphere reserve, situated at 50 Km North from Beirut, represent an important public for these local products but also for the guesthouses and hiking trails in the biosphere reserve.

The MAB Programme payed tribute to the women’s involvement in this ecotouristic development of the region, as well as in the management of Jabal Moussa Bisophere Reserve.
