Latin American and Caribbean Artists release song in support of UNiTE Campaign
The UNiTE campaign’s Latin America and Caribbean Artist Network are soon to launch the song ‘Joy’,through which they show their commitment to the United Nations Secretary-General Campaign UNiTE to end violence against women and to the eradication of gender violence.
The song, ‘Joy’ was composed by Costa Rican singer-songwriter Miguel Solaris with lyrics from MasudSadiki (RIP), Paola Villacís, Maf y TiãoSimpatia and sung by a range of artists including David Rudder, Paola Villacís, Maf, TiãoSimpatia and Miguel Solaris himself.
The idea for the song came about at a session at the UNiTE Artists Network workshop in Panama City in September 2011; the chorus of the song states “Joy is a Human Right. Violence Against Women kills joy”. The song, which was recorded from September 2012 to January 2013 was a feat of coordination as it included the participation of a group of musicians, and recording took place in a range of countries including Costa Rica, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago and Ecuador.
Lead collaborator, Miguel Solaris said of the experience, “It is with pride that I say that I´m deeply thankful for the participation of these wonderful musicians who joined this project and made this song possible. On top of everything, having music as a mechanism of social impact means a lot to me as an artist, and this song, we hope, will touch people´s hearts".
