UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on the members of the Security Council to fully support his Special Envoy in working on convening formal talks seeking to resolve the Syria conflict and developing proposals for future talks, or risk destroying the international community’s credibility in being able to uphold “our common humanity.”

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has declared that more than 55 countries have formally joined the Paris Agreement on climate change signed by world leaders this past April, officially crossing one of the two thresholds required to bring into force the landmark pact that seeks to put the world on a path towards low-carbon growth and a more sustainable future.

At the UN Private Sector Forum, held on the margins of the high-level segment of the General Assembly’s 71st session, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon underscored the crucial role businesses play in the realization of Global Goals, or Sustainable Development Goals, adopted a year ago by 193 countries.

Ban Ki-moon pledges continued support to address human rights and humanitarian challenges that persist.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in his latest op-ed in the Huffington Post, stressed that he has been urging leaders across Europe, and indeed throughout the world, to show greater solidarity not just through relief, but through resettlement and other legal pathways for refugees.
The Security Council must set aside its political differences and come together to find a solution for the “intractable” and drawn-out Syrian conflict.
