3 October: Informal Launch Briefing on participation of indigenous peoples in relevant UN meetings

election - broddi SThe President of the 71st Session of the General Assembly has issued the below letter to invite participants to join the Informal Launch Briefing on the next steps of the consultation on the participation of indigenous peoples’ representatives and institutions in relevant United Nations meetings on issues affecting them.

The briefing will take place in Conference Room UN Headquarters in New York on 3 October 2016 from 4-6 PM.

To register, please follow the steps mentioned in the letter by the President of the General Assembly.

16th session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (24 April – 5 May 2017)

10th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (19 – 23 June 2017)

 

Please note that the deadline to submit applications to attend the 16th session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and the 10th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is: 30 November 2016.

On the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples,

The United Nations Department of Public Information and the Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, Division of Social Policy and Development, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs screened two films to pay tribute to the indigenous peoples living in cities far from their ancestral homes

On August 25, 2016, the Standing Rock Sioux and hundreds of people gathered in Washington D.C. in opposition to the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The Judge delayed his ruling,  until September 9, on the lawsuit submitted by the Sioux against the Army Corps of Engineers for lack of consultation. Read more
