The World Summit on the Information Society recognized that Internet governance is an essential element for a people centered, inclusive, development oriented and non-discriminatory Information Society. As Internet governance is of key importance for UNESCO, it will continue to contribute to promoting the potential of the Internet as a truly universally accessible space.
As the Internet is growing with high speed, giving people the possibility to fulfil their aspirations to share, communicate, learn and transmit information and knowledge, UNESCO has advocated an open, transparent and inclusive approach to Internet Governance based on the principle of diversity and openness encompassing the free flow of information, freedom of expression and technical interoperability.
