Strengthening professional capacity of young Tajik journalists

Young TV, radio and print journalists from Tajikistan will attend summer training on practical journalism with the support of UNESCO’s International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC). The courses, which will focus on reporting local development issues, are organized by the Independent School of Journalism “Tajikistan – 21st Century”.
This training is part of the IPDC supported project, Strengthening Professional Knowledge and Skills of Young Journalists. Its first stage started 1 June and will be delivered throughout the summer period. 60 young journalists, aged 18-30, have been selected on competitive basis to participate in the training.
The courses will be held twice a week, in Tajik and Russian languages, and will focus on topics such as: international professional and ethical standards, analytical reporting in the media, economic journalism, etc.
Special attention will be given to practical skills in reporting and analysis. After the training, the participants are expected to be able to cover political, social and economic issues accurately and in a balanced manner, based on a thorough research.
Materials prepared by the students will be published in various media; an internship for the graduates will be organized in TV and radio stations and in newspapers. On completion of the training, the students will be given certificates and recommended to press and electronic media for the job.
The second stage of the training on practical journalism will be held in autumn 2009 and it will also involve 60 students.
