UNESCO promotes freedom of expression and freedom of the press as a basic human right

UNESCO Advisory Group for Press Freedom
The Advisory Group for Press Freedom was established by UNESCO in 1995 to assist the Organisation in the celebration of World Press Freedom Day. Among its members, the Director-General selects the Jury who awards the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize. It also contributes towards developing other initiatives aimed at promoting free and independent media throughout the world. Its members are all distinguished, international media professionals.
