Conférence annuelle des médias et de la communication des Caraïbes (3 – 4 mai 2010, Trinité-et-Tobago)
UNESCO´s Kingston Office, in partnership with the Caribbean Broadcasting Union, the Association of Caribbean Media Workers and the Media Association of Trinidad and Tobago, are organizing a Conference to celebrate World Press Freedom Day.
To be held on 3-4 May 2010, this event will bring together participants from countries within the Kingston Cluster. Panelists will deliver papers on topics that fall under this year’s WPFD theme: “Freedom of Expression – The Right to Know”. The issues to be covered are Capacity building, Science and Education Journalism, Freedom of information and Editorial independence, and Transforming Media in the Digital Age. There will be a also be special intervention on Capacity Rebuilding in Haiti.
The meeting will feature presentations by the following speakers:
- Ms Mary Polius from Radio St. Lucia, on “Editorial Independence and Quality Public Service Broadcasting”
- Mr David Bain from CARIMAC, Jamaica, on “Transforming Media in A Digital Age”
- Dr. Paloma Mohamed from University of Guyana, on “Science and Education Journalism”
- Mr Rishi Maharaj, Ministry of Information Trinidad and Tobago, on “Freedom of Information -Legislative Agenda”
- Dr. Canute James from CARIMAC , Jamaica, on “Caribbean Media Capacity Building”
- Mr Jean Claude Louis from Haiti, on “Media Capacity Rebuilding in Haiti”.
