Sound synthesis (pc)
We often speak of a virtual synthesizer to distinguish a software program manufacturing sounds from a material synthesizer. The latter can have a keyboard, not have a keyboard (an expander), or be housed in an electronic chip on the sound card [synthesis techniques]. A synthesis program actually makes the sound in digital form and then sends it to another program or converts it to computer output through the sound card. MIDI commands can be used.

csounds.jpg CSound
08 Jan 2004 - CSound is a successor to the legendary Music V. Like the latter, it requires some patience to learn the various commands. In fact, to produce a sound, you have to start by programming two pure text files in lines of code.

Psycle.jpg Psycle
08 Jan 2004 - Psycle is a modular software that enables you to build your own electronic music instruments (called machines ). These consist of generators (to generate sounds), a sampler (to play existing sounds) and effects (to modify the sounds).

TS404.jpg TS404
08 Jan 2004 - TS404 is a virtual synthesiser that enables you to create sounds by additive synthesis or frequency modulations. Up to 4 instruments can be superimposed. For each of these, there are: 2 oscillators, an envelope generator, a filter and an LFO.
To record the sound, go to the “File” menu, then click on “Stream 2 Disk”.

syd.jpg Syd
15 Nov 2003 - Syd is a synthesiser in which the various modules (oscillator, envelope, etc.) are linked up by Syd is a synthesiser in which the various modules (oscillator, envelope, etc.) are linked up by algorythms) by placing the modules in the centre space, and then link up the different modules by using connection cords.

Stomper-Hyperion.jpg Stomper Hyperion
15 Nov 2003 - Stomper is a synthesizer for creating percussion-type (“kickdrum”) sounds. Cross-oscillator modulation is used to generate sound (additive synthesis and frequency modulation). Each oscillator’s characteristics can be edited independently.

coagula.gif Coagula
12 Nov 2003 - Detailed user guide :Coagula allows you to transform a Bitmap image into Wave sound. The horizontal axe is for time, the vertical for pitch, brightness corresponds to the sound strength and colours to tones. The image can be imported into or created in Coagula. The software allows you to transform itwith filtres and paintbrushes. It also allows zoom, rotation and deformation.

signal.jpg SignalGenerator
15 Oct 2003 - Detailled user guide : This sound generator can produce test signals ranging from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with different wave forms. It can also produce white noise and pink noise.

soundforum.jpg SoundForum
15 Oct 2003 - Detailled DAtasheet: This software synthesiser has two oscillators with four wave shapes each.It allows synthesis by frequency modulation and ring modulation. An oscilloscope representsthe shape of the wave obtained. On a MIDI keyboard, SoundForum enables you to play up to 64 tracks simultaneously, depending on the computer’s capacity (puissance).

15 Oct 2003 - Detailed user guide: Modular synthesis software that gives access to oscillators for an additive, ring modulation orsubtractive synthesis (with filtres). Includes a sequencer module and some effect modules.

wavefm.jpg WaveFM
15 Sep 2003 - Detailed user guide for FM SYNTHESIS: WaveFM is an FM synthesiser that reminds of synthesisers like Yamaha’s DX7. You can produce a sound and record it in a sound file (Wave). You can play from a virtual keyboard or an external keyboard via MIDI as well. Wave FM has 6 operators and 32 algoryths.

wavemodeler.jpg WaveModeler
15 Sep 2003 - WaveModeler is above all a synthesiser that functions by adding pure (sinusoidal) sounds.Themodel used is therefore additive synthesis (with 16 harmonies). The result can be modulated inamplitude or frequency. When opening a sound file, WaveModeler becomes a sampler. You can produce a sound to save it in a sound file (Wave) or play from a virtual keyboard or anexternal keyboard via MIDI.
Skill level: intermediate
granulab.gif Granulab
15 Sep 2003 - GranuLab is a real-time granular sythesizer. It uses a built-in sine wave or you may load a sound file as raw material for sound production.
