At UNESCO’s initiative and in partnership with the Paris City Hall, the Eiffel Tower will turn off its lights for five minutes starting at 6.30 p.m. (Paris time), as will other monuments including the Empire State Building and the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. The action is part of the Lights for Rights campaign, aimed at focusing public attention on universal access to prevention and treatment and human rights, the theme of this 22nd World AIDS Day.
UNESCO, as a founding cosponsor of the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), is organizing a series of events in Paris and around the world from 30 November to 10 December highlighting the international response to HIV and AIDS.
