UNESCO-Daniel Langlois Foundation Programme promoting African media arts at Dak’Art_Lab 2006

Within the framework of Dak’Art_Lab of the Dak’Art Biennale 2006 (5 May–5 June 2006, Senegal-Dakar), which is the laboratory of Art and Technologies serving as a platform of encounters between scientists, technicians and artists, a special programme promoting digital artistic practises in Africa is to take place in partnership with the Daniel Langlois Foundation and the UNESCO DigiArts team through its networking component of DigiArts Africa.

Exhibition

The exhibition displaying a selected number of works of the following African media artists was a timely occasion to increase the visibility of existing digital artistic practises and to sensitize artists of different disciplines and the general public of the potential of digital creation in Africa.

- Ingrid Mwangi and Robert Hutter (Kenya)
- Amal El Kanawy (Egypt)
- Michèle Magema (RDC)- in French
- Berni Searle (South Africa)
- Marcus Neustetter and Stephen Hobbs (South Africa)

Forum

A series of panel discussions was held on the Aesthetics and Practises of Media Arts in Africa - Maison de la culture Douta Seck, from 8 to 12 May 2006.

On this occasion, the Lab was transformed into a place of exchange of experience, of collaboration and of reflection bringing together different role players and their expertise in the contemporary scene of African digital art and furthermore creating a synergy, leading to interdisciplinary and cross-sectorial collaboration within the region.

Workshops

From 06 to 14 May 2006, two training workshops on creative digital tools and practises were organized in cooperation with "École Nationale des Arts de Dakar".
