Transeuropéennes is an international journal of critical thought founded in 1993. Since November 2009, it has taken the form of an online multimedia and multilingual journal published in Arabic, English, French and Turkish.

Committed since its creation to link theory and action, culture and politics, Transeuropéennes conceived in late 2005 a Euro-Mediterranean structuring project entitled Translating in the Mediterranean Area, which was launched in 2008 in Marseille.
This initiative, which highlights the diversity of languages and forms of cultural expression, places translation at the very heart of intercultural dialogue and intercultural practices.

Translating in the Mediterranean Area aims at creating translation dynamics characterized by reciprocity and equal exchange. The project involves creating a network of institutional and non-governmental partners and experts. The cooperative platform Translating in the Mediterranean carries out studies and surveys on translation in the region, in the field of literature, human and social sciences, theatre, youth literature, as well as innovative dissemination, mediation and training projects.

In 2010, the Anna Lindh Foundation and Transeuropéennes are launching and coordinating a vast assessment of translation in the Mediterranean Area, in partnership with the King Abdul Aziz al Saoud Foundation for Islamic Studies and Human Sciences in Casablanca, the Escuela de Traductores in Toledo, the Next Page Foundation, the Goethe Institute, the Naples Eastern University, the Istanbul Bilgi and Okan Universities, the American University in Cairo, Saint-Joseph University, the Lebanese University, the Index Translationum, Literature Across Frontiers, the Institut Français du Proche-Orient, the Orient Institut, the Institut de Recherches et d’Etudes sur le Monde Arabe et Musulman, the International Poetry Centre in Marseille, the European Council of Literary Translators’ Associations,  the Arab Translation Organisation, the Maison du Livre (Beirut), the Collège européen des Traducteurs Littéraires de Seneffe ...
