Bosnia and Herzegovina- Operational project on the rehabilitation plan for the historic centre of Mostar

In December 1995, the Director-General of UNESCO and the representative of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Government signed a Cooperation Memorandum providing for the preparation of reconstruction and restoration projects in the fields of UNESCORegarding cultural heritage, the Memorandum refers to the restoration of historical centres (in particular in Sarajevo and Mostar) and to the restoration of monuments and other buildings of significance for various religious communities.Regarding cultural heritage, the Memorandum refers to the restoration of historical centres (in particular in Sarajevo and Mostar) and to the restoration of monuments and other buildings of significance for various religious communities.

With reference to the Memorandum signed in December 1995 and in compliance with the Cooperation Agreement signed in March 1996 by the Director-General and the Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sport of Bosnia-Herzegovina, 4 projects for the restauration of cultural heritage were drafted by UNESCO. They were submitted for financing to Member States and three States have already reacted and granted funds for specific projects
