International Jury Meeting of the Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture

    On the basis of the recommendation of the International Jury of the prize, the Director-General selects two laureates for this award which enhances international awareness and understanding of the rich and diverse heritage of Arab Culture.

    As the promotion of intercultural dialogue lies at the heart of UNESCO’s mandate, the Organization actively supports a wide range of actions aimed at strengthening this crucial area. The Sharjah Prize contributes to such efforts to the extent that it draws attention to the processes of dialogue and exchange through which the Arab Culture has developed, and has served to inspire and nourish other cultures and civilizations.

    The sum offered from the Government of Sharjah is US$ 50,000 to be divided equally between two laureates.

    The Award Ceremony takes place the second week of December 2007 - to be confirmed - at UNESCO Headquarters (Room VIII).
