The Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Barcelona will host a special Workshop on the theme of ‘Archaeology and Sites of Memory of Communities of African Descent in Brazil’, scheduled on Wednesday 12 May 2010.

Organized by the University of Barcelona and the IBERTUR Network, this initiative is supported by the Spanish International Cooperation Agency for Development and the UNESCO Slave Route Project.

The Workshop’s programme is structured under three major steps as follows:

7:00 p.m.: Presentation by Dr. Jordi Tresserras, Vice-President of the International Scientific Committee of The UNESCO Slave Route Project / University of Barcelona

7:05 p.m.: Conference: "Archaeology and Sites of Memory of the African Descent Communities in Brazil: the case of the Palmares Quilombo." by Dr. Scott Joseph Allen, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil

8:00 p.m.: Debate, moderated by Dr Luis Ruiz Peinado and Dr Natalia Moragas, University of Barcelona

8:30 p.m.: Closing
