Gender and Education for All
THE LEAP TO EQUALITY

BACKGROUND PAPERS

The Monitoring Report is the result of a broad research exercise, reflected by this collection of over 70 commissioned papers, prepared by researchers and institutes around the world. A large number are strictly related to gender, the theme of the 2003/4 Report. These include some two dozen country case studies about efforts to introduce gender sensitive reforms in education.

Major barriers to education are analysed in papers on child labour, school fees and HIV/AIDS. Attention is drawn in others to the teaching profession, disability and the issue of gender violence in school. A further set of papers casts education in the broader societal context, focusing on globalisation and political participation. Finally, several papers look at EFA reforms in countries, decentralization and civil society involvement.

The papers are currently classified by author. Should you wish to quote extracts, please cite the title, the author and source them as background papers for the EFA Global Monitoring Report 2003/4.

We trust these papers will prove a valuable addition to current research on education for all issues.
