UNESCO Chair in Bioethics (932), established in 2010 at the University of Khartoum (Sudan).

Fields/Disciplines

Bioethics.

Objectives

  • To enhance research capabilities and capacity-building to develop highly qualified human resources in the field of bioethics as well as supervise appropriate continued training programmes for the concerned governmental and private sector target groups;
  • To enhance studies that analyse and integrate issues related to the social, cultural, ethical and legal implications of progress in the life sciences, and provide access to knowledge and information in the field of bioethics in general, and genetics and molecular biology in particular;
  • To develop an up-to-date syllabus for bioethics education and undertake training activities at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels utilizing regional and international experiences, particularly those included in the Global Ethics Observatory (GEObs) and the UNESCO core course in bioethics, and
  • To establish a rapid and systematic mechanism for the acquisition, exchange and dissemination of knowledge and information on bioethics to target groups in Sudan utilizing knowledge and experience gained by the global network of UNESCO chairs, UNITWIN Networks as well as GEObs.
