UNESCO and the European Athletics work together promote anti-doping to young athletes from around the world.

UNESCO’s anti-doping education materials were a key feature of the anti-doping education programme launched at the European Athletics U23 Championships held in Debrecen, Hungary from 12 to 15 July 2007.

Over 300 enthusiastic young athletes from 33 countries participated in a range of education activities designed to promote anti-doping and sporting values. Other information material provided included the IAAF Athletes Guide and Prohibited List and the WADA Anti-Doping Quiz. At the European Athletics Junior Championships in Hengelo, Netherlands from 19 to 22 July 2007 there was an increase in both the numbers of athletes and countries participating in the education programme. In 2006, UNESCO and European Athletics signed a memorandum of understanding, agreeing to work together in the fight against doping in sport. Future activities are planned to provide quality advice to young people and to build resilience among the next generation of athletes. For the full text click here.
