17-03-2010 (UNESCO) - The fifth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF) will be held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) from 22 to 26 March under the theme “The Right to the City - Bridging the Urban Divide.” The world’s leading conference on cities, which is organized by the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-HABITAT) every two years, examines the most pressing problems related to the urban context.

19-02-2010 (UNESCOPRESS) - The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova launched the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures with the establishment of the High Panel on Peace and Dialogue among Cultures. “This day marks the beginning of an intellectual journey throughout which we will reflect on ways to trace new perspectives for peace in the 21st Century,” declared the Director-General.

18-01-2010 (UNESCO) - Almost five years after its initial launch in 2004, the European Coalition of Cities against Racism (ECCAR), a network of 97 cities from 20 countries, held its third General Conference in the French city of Toulouse from 19 to 20 November 2009. Representatives from over 50 cities, the Council of Europe, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights and numerous civil society groups gathered to discuss ways and means to better address racism and discrimination at the local level.

28-10-2009 (UNESCO) - The Sixteenth Session of UNESCO's International Bioethics Committee (IBC) will take place in Mexico City (Mexico) from 23 to 25 November 2009. Organized in cooperation with the Consejo Consultivo de Ciencias of the Presidency of Mexico, it will be followed by a European Commission-UNESCO conference of experts and members of national bioethics committees from around the world from 26 to 28 November. Initially planned for last May, the two meetings were postponed due to the A(H1N1) flu epidemic.
