E-governance and access to information for the municipality of Sidi El Bernoussi in Morocco

04-09-2006 (Rabat)
Work started recently in Morocco to establish an information system for the municipality, under the auspices of the Center for Media Freedom in Middle East and North Africa.
The project which comes within the framework of a contract that the President of the Council of the district of Sidi El Bernoussi and the President of the Casablanca Region recently signed, consists of developing a website for the municipality and publishing a directory on the municipality for local citizens. A charter of good governance will also be proposed in the development of the information system.

After several meetings with decision makers of the district, the project is making progress in the collection and processing of documents, texts and images to be integrated into the website and directory. After this initial stage of work carried out, a first model of the various products will be validated by the administrators and a training session will be organized in order to help civil servants management the municipality Website in an autonomous way.

UNESCO and ISESCO contribute towards the universal access to information and knowledge which constitutes a centre piece in the construction of knowledge societies. Consequently, the two organizations support the actions intended to promote and widen the access to information through the organization, digitalization, management and safeguarding of information. This action also aims at encouraging the governments to mobilize new opportunities offered by the information society in order to create equitable societies through better access to information.

The Center for Media Freedom in the Middle East and North Africa (CMF MENA), is an independent centre based in Casablanca and London that is supported by UNESCO. The Centre undertakes activities in the field of freedom of information and the development of the media.
