An international meeting to discuss the development of media education will be held in Paris next week.
In order to build a diverse and inclusive “information society”, it is more than ever necessary to impart to all citizens and particularly to young people skills enabling them to understand information, to take the distance required for critical analysis, to use and to produce contents.
On 21 and 22 June, about thirty persons, representing different stakeholders involved in media education (experts, teachers, journalists, NGOs, policy makers), and coming from all the regions of the world, will take stock of the progress made and the obstacles met in developing media education through the implementation of education policies and practical experiences. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the UNESCO Grünwald Declaration, that paved the way for media education at the international level, the partitcipants will formulate recommendations designed to encourage the mobilisation of all stakeholders and a widespread media education and to be presented at the 34th General Conference of UNESCO next October. This international meeting will be held in Paris, at the International Conferences Centre. It is organized by the French Commission for UNESCO in cooperation with UNESCO and with the support of the Council of Europe and the French Ministry of Education.
