The deadline for submission of nominations for the third award of UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize is approaching. Individuals or institutions having made a significant contribution to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage should be nominated before 31 March 2009.
Nominations can be submitted by UNESCO Member States, in consultation with their National Commissions, as well as by international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) maintaining official relations with UNESCO and working in the field of preservation and conservation of documentary heritage.

Each nomination must include a description of the candidate's background and achievements, in English or French; a summary of the work; any available publications or other supporting documents; and an explanation of the way in which the work submitted has contributed to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage.

The UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize was created to commemorate the inscription of the Buljo jikji simche yojeol - the oldest known book of moveable metal print in the world - on the Memory of the World Register. It aims to contribute to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage as a common heritage of humanity.

The Prize is funded by the Republic of Korea through arrangements made with the Municipal Council of Cheongju City and consists of an award of US $30,000 that is given every two years to individuals or institutions that have made significant contributions to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage.

The 2007 Jikji Prize was awarded to Austria's Phonogrammarchiv, the oldest sound archive in the world, for its substantial contribution to the advancement of audiovisual preservation.
