This high-level international event is organized by UNESCO in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), regional broadcasting unions and other international organisations to consider a global consensus to raise public awareness on the challenges of climate change.

The conference will bring together national broadcasters from developing and developed countries with representatives of international broadcasting associations, regional broadcasting unions, , scientific organizations and climate-related agencies to discuss the important role of the broadcaster in raising public awareness on climate change.

It will focus on the role and needs of national broadcasters, particularly in least developed countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), exploring their capacities to report on climate change issues, and discussing access to relevant information, reference material and the possible exchange of broadcast material.

Additionally the conference will serve as a platform for regional and international collaboration to offer and generate solutions to the most urgent questions and the next steps to take concerning climate change and broadcast media, particularly in developing countries. Such collaboration will empower national broadcasters to fulfil their role in making climate change and related mitigation and adaptation options better understood by audiences.
