As part of celebrations marking the 64th year of UNESCO’s presence in India, the UNESCO New Delhi Office is conducting a two-day National Symposium on Challenges and Opportunities of Media Education in India. It is being held today and tomorrow at the IGNOU campus in New Delhi.
The event has been organized in partnership with the School of Journalism and New Media Studies of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA).
Academics, government officials and media professionals from India, and from all over the world, are meeting to discuss how best to encourage young people to critically engage with the country’s booming media scene. As more and more people are gaining access to media and ICT, it is hoped that strategies will be developed to introduce media literacy education at all levels of school and college curricula, and to assure the quality of educational programmes. The main sessions of the Symposium are the following:
