On 12 March 2010 Radio Toco welcomed the delegates of the 2nd Caribbean Conference on Community Multimedia Centres in its studios. The personnel of the station were very pleased to learn that a declaration, named for their Radio, would be adopted at the conclusion of the Conference.
The delegates had left the city of Port of Spain and journeyed for over two hours into the north-eastern hills of Trinidad to visit one of the most successful CMCs in the Caribbean region - Radio Toco 106.7 FM. The laureate of the 2003 UNESCO-IPDC Prize for Rural Communication, Radio Toco is recognised as an outstanding FM medium for information sharing amongst the rural communities of Trinidad.

The group was warmly welcomed by Michael Als, President and founding member of Toco Foundation. On behalf of the village of Toco, he commended UNESCO for its assistance to the Radio and its overall support to community multimedia centres.

The representative of UNESCO’s Office in Kingston, Isidro Fernandez-Aballi, reiterated UNESCO’s commitment to supporting worthy communication and information projects in the region. He also congratulated Radio Toco for its excellent service to the community and encouraged other CMCs to take Radio Toco as an example.

At the end of the ceremony the delegates of the 2nd Caribbean Conference on CMCs adopted and signed the Toco Declaration, which outlines the structure of the future association of Caribbean CMCs. The Declaration is available in PDF below.
