The five-day workshop is organized by the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA) and sponsored by UNESCO through its International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC). It is entitled “Climate Change Awareness Policy for Public Broadcasting”.

The event encompasses climate change journalism, broadcaster responsibility, programme evaluation and agreement on a common broadcasting policy. Delegates from Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia expect to leave with a universal template that will provide necessary synergies to produce common content across the region.

Other issues on the agenda are South Africa’s plans for hosting the next year’s climate change gathering, the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, and challenges facing programme exchange and co-production.
