Born in Cairo in 1974, Amal Kenawy lives and works in Cairo, Egypt.
1999: studied and got B.A in painting and sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Cairo. She also studied film and fashion design at cinema institute, ART Academy.
1995 until 2002, Amal started doing collaborative projects with her brother Abdel Ghany Kenawy. So far they have jointly produced 11 art projects covering the full range of sculptures, installations, video installations, and performances. They use various mediums to accommodate the concepts inherent in each project. In 1996, Kenawy received the first prize sculpture.

At the 1998 Cairo Biennale, Kenawy secured them the UNESCO grand prize

In her work, she creating a space in which she negotiates her own identities vises a vise the world around her. She explored the dream - a world of illusion against the memory of reality and brings the unseen into a visual space by sensing a metaphorical world that hides behind the physicality.
She create space a room that reflects the much bigger world where the social being is a product and reflection of their surroundings. Amal Kenawy's work spans a breadth of mediums (Video - installations - Video performance, Sculpture, Photographs, painting, Video animation) have been shown in countless international exhibitions, biennales, theatre and Film festivals in Cairo, Beirut, Paris, Dakar biennale, Bethlehem, Istanbul, Tunis, Morocco among other locales. Kenawy most recently showed her work as part of the Africa Remix exhibition touring from 2004 - 2006; the Kunst Palast Museum (Düsseldorf), the Hayward Gallery (London), the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), and the Mori Art Museum (Tokyo).

In her recently showed her (video animation – The purple artificial forest) working on the same project as theatre video performance 2006/2007.Through the animation it was possible for the transformations of the elements and relations more than the real theatre. She is invited to be presented in Dakar biennale 2006 with her video installation (Booby Trapped Heaven).
