First Session of the Conference of the Parties
The first session of the Conference of the Parties to the International Convention against Doping in Sport was held at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris on 5-7 February 2007.

The meeting was attended by 36 of the 41 States Parties that have ratified, accepted, adopted or acceded to the Convention. Representatives from 50 countries were also present as observers and the World Anti-Doping Agency attended as an advisory organization.

The Conference elected the following Bureau Members for the first session:

Key items of the discussions by the Conference of Parties included the adoption of the Rules of Procedure and the Monitoring Framework for the Convention.

The Conference adopted the World Anti-Doping Agency’s 2007 Prohibited List. This is an integral part of the Convention because it is fundamental to international harmonization in the fight against doping in sport.

The Conference also decided on the administration of the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport. This Fund, now estimated at $300,000, is to be used by UNESCO to assist States Parties with: (1) education projects focusing on youth and sports organizations; (2) policy advice; (3) mentoring or capacity development programmes.

Nine countries (Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, and Sweden) announced contributions to the Voluntary Fund at the Conference, and several others indicated their intention to contribute in the near future.

The Conference of the Parties will meet again in ordinary session in November 2009.
