شيّد الأمبراطور شارلمان كنيسة بالاتين بين العامين 790 و 800 وهي بازيليك مثمنة الأطراف ذات قبّة، تُعتبر نسخة عن كنائس الإمبراطورية الرومانية الشرقية تزينها زخارف ثمينة للغاية تعود إلى القرون الوسطى.
