This report is a consolidated summary and analysis of the status of comprehensive sexuality education for teacher training in 21 countries in the East and Southern Africa region.
The aim of this guide is to support schools and school boards in implementing a process for sex education that is consistent with the policy framework outlined in 2003, Sex Education in the Context of Education Reform. In fact, many schools, although they are convinced of the need to establish such a process, are still searching for concrete ways to put it into practice. In this paper we explore the perceived desirable characteristics of South African Life Orientation teachers for teaching sexuality and HIV/AIDS. We also investigate the extent to which these characteristics can be understood as parts of a role script for teaching HIV/AIDS and sexuality. Data were collected from teachers who taught Grade Eight and Grade Nine students in South African public high schools. The teachers particularly emphasised the importance of personality and life experience as important characteristics for teaching sexuality and HIV/AIDS. …

Key findings. There was a very high level of agreement between parents, school leaders and governors about SRE provision. More than nine out of 10 parents, and approximately eight out of 10 school leaders and governors agreed that it was 'very important' for children to receive information on practising safer sex and always using contraception. …
This six booklets on Health and family life education (HFLE) are intended to teachers of primary schools. The purpose of these guides is to provide teachers with materials and resources to implement HFLE. These guides build on the foundation of the Regional Curriculum Framework for HLFE, which sets out the HFLE philosophy and standards for teaching and identifies the desired knowledge, skills and behavioral outcomes for students.
