    La publicación ha sido elaborada como parte del proyecto “Educación y Respeto para la prevención y atención del bullying homofóbico y transfóbico de las instituciones educativas”, con apoyo del Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Ciencia de los Países Bajos.     À partir de résultats tirés d’une enquête par questionnaire auprès de 2747 élèves de l’école secondaire québécoise et d’entrevues auprès de jeunes s’identifiant comme lesbiennes, gais, bisexuel(le)s ou en questionnement (LGBQ) ou comme trans, cet article propose une réflexion sur les violences prenant pour cible l’expression de genre à l’école. Plus du tiers des élèves s’identifiant comme hétérosexuels rapportent avoir été victimes de violences parce qu’on pense qu’ils sont, ou parce qu’ils sont gais. C’est également le cas de plus des deux tiers des élèves LGBQ. …

  6. Why LGBT issues matter in education

    The author analyzes how three dimensions of the school system: school climate, formal curriculum and teaching practices influence the school experiences of LGBT youth.   8. LGBTI rights: an activity pack for teachers of children and young people

    This resource enables teachers to explore the human rights of sexual minority groups with children and young people. LGBTI stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex people. These activities are designed to enable young people to use language positively, to celebrate diversity and tolerance. Teachers of primary, secondary and FE students can look at the suggested age-range of each activity and select appropriately for their students. Activities meet statutory curricular requirements across the UK.

    Every student has a right to learn in a safe environment. Yet for students who face bullying and harassment, schools and other educational settings can be fundamentally unsafe places. Bullying can take multiple forms, including: teasing, name-calling and labelling, physical abuse, sexual assault and social exclusion. Bullying not only threatens a child’s right to education, but it undermines other fundamental rights to health, safety, dignity and freedom from discrimination.   12. Research into the needs of young people in Northern Ireland who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (LGBT)

    This research has been commissioned by the Department of Education as part of their statutory duty to promote equality of opportunity under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998). Analysis of the Census 2001 indicates that between 2 and 10% of the population may be lesbian, gay or bisexual. This would indicated that there are between 12,190 and 60,953 LGB people under 25 years in Northern Ireland. …

  13. Empowering lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth: lessons learned from a Safe Schools Summit

    The bullying of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth in schools is a significant problem in the United States. This study examined responses of youth participants at a statewide Safe Schools Summit to a survey of their experiences with school-based violence, harassment, and discrimination, and of the effects of their attendance at the Summit. Quantitative analyses found that 92% of respondents felt "more empowered" following participation in the Summit. …

  14. Bullying of LGBT youth and school climate for LGBT educators

    Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students continue to report more often than their heterosexual peers, through repeated studies (Kosciw, et al, 2010), a much higher incidence of experiencing bullying and harassment in schools. These students also reported a higher degree of isolation and few role models in schools. This paper discusses and relates results from a 2011 study during which teachers who self-identified as LGBT completed a survey to provide information on the workplace climate. …

  15. Excuse me, Miss, are you a lesbian? A research report on the situation of LGBT educational workers in the school system in Slovenia

    The project was carried out in the period between December 2009 and December 2010 within the "Activate!" and "For LGBT Youth" programs of the Društvo informacijski center Legebitra.The fundamental aims of the project were: To gather and analyze information on the situation of LGBT teachers in Slovenia; To monitor and record the level of homophobia in the school system; To raise awareness in schools and among the wider public about the situation of LGBT teachers, and to put forward the recommendations for necessary social and systematic changes when fighting homophobia.
